Priorities
Laura’s priorities build on the pillars of the City’s recently adopted Strategic Plan and include fostering regional collaboration, environmental stewardship, preserving our community’s character, transparent government, and building a diversified, year-round economy.
Traverse City’s future depends on strong partnerships. Laura believes in regional cooperation to address the City’s shared challenges, including housing, affordability, childcare, transportation, and infrastructure needs.
Foster Collaborative Solutions for Regional Issues
“We’re stronger together–our region’s biggest challenges require collaboration, not division.”
Preserve Community Character
Our neighborhoods are the heart of Traverse City. Laura will champion policies that preserve the scale and charm of our neighborhoods while adopting an intentional approach to urban design and growth. She will empower neighborhood engagement through the neighborhood associations.
“Growth should never come at the cost of what makes Traverse City feel like home.”
Champion Environmental Stewardship
Laura believes that our natural beauty is not just an asset–it’s a responsibility. Laura will work to protect our environment for current and future generations by prioritizing land and water stewardship, climate action, and continued investment in our parks, green infrastructure, and tree canopy.
“Environmental stewardship is not optional–it’s essential to our identity and our future.”
Inclusive, Transparent Governance
Laura will champion open government, public input, and inclusive decision-making. As a City Commissioner, Laura will ensure that decisions are made openly, with clear communication and public engagement at every step of the process, and will work to rebuild trust between local government and citizens.
“Good governance relies on trust, and trust begins with transparency. We can do better.”
Laura believes that Traverse City can be both economically dynamic and community focused. As a candidate for City Commission, she’s committed to a collaborative and practical approach to supporting the businesses and workers who power our local economy.
Build a Year-Round, Diversified Economy
“Let’s grow responsibly–with collaboration, common sense, and community at the center.”
